Orkney & Hebrides Intrigue & Adventure
Both of these sets of islands are mind blowing in terms of their stunning natural beauty, people, wildlife, culture and history. This has occured, in part due to their remote locations. However, what the islands lack in accessibility they certainly make up for with legendary highland hospitality. 'The Vibe' reveres these island residents for defiantly upholding the values of a traditional way. So join us on the road to the isles for the holiday of a lifetime.
Day 1: The moring will see us taking in historic Stirling & the Troassachs National Park, for King Robert the Bruce, and William Wallace; Balquidder and Killin for Rob Roy, Glen Coe for the massacre; with Glen Mor and Eilean Donan Castle in the afternoon before crossing over the sea to Skye where we spend the night in Portree.
Day 2: Skye has a abundance of sites of archeaological and historical significance. With castles, Brochs, Cairns, and Clearance Villages its a great place to whet ones appetite for Orkney. Tonight we stay in the planned 19th C fishing village of Ullapool.
Day 3: Having driven along the unspolit North West Coast with white sand beaches and sea caves amongst the trearures of the vast county of Sutherland, we will then take the evening ferry accross the Pentland Firth to Orkney, where we will spend the next two nights.
Day 4: Today entails a thorough insight into Neolithic mans existance in this part of the world. We see how they lived and died and how there spiritual beliefs may have evolved from the clues left behind such as the awesome Ring of Brodgar, and Stones of Steness, and numerous other important sites such as Maes Howe and of the course the World Heritage Site, Skarra Brae, one of the best preserved Neolithic villages in existance.
Day 5: In the morning we will have a reall hands on experience at the falily owned and run Tomb of the Eagles, where one can actually hold many of the artifacts that have been discoved here less than 50 years ago. Taking the lunchtime ferry back to the mainlandwe will take a coastal walk out to Castle Sinclair, one of the strongholds of the St Clair families of Rosslyn. A few few other places will be visited as we continue South to the our destination for the evening, Carbisdale Castle.
Day 6: We will visit an an ancient Pictish healing well before hitting Inverness for lunch after an emotional visit to Culloden Battlefield, where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite army took their last stand. Before returning to Edinburgh we will take a gentle forest walk through near Dunkeld.
